Spain is a world-class destination for climbing, boasting numerous routes that challenge even the most experienced climbers. The hot Spanish rock has become a magnet for the global elite climbing community, representing one of the most significant contributions to our climbing heritage.

Spain is home to two of the five hardest routes in the world, which are also the only two 9b+ lines that have been repeated: La Dura Dura in Oliana and Perfecto Mundo in Margalef. However, no Spanish climber has yet reached this level of difficulty on rock.

Let’s discover the hardest climbing routes in Spain with our team of Fixer in Spain:

  1. La Dura Dura (9b+) – Oliana, Catalonia:
    • This route, climbed by Adam Ondra and Chris Sharma, is one of the hardest in the world. It represents an extreme challenge both physically and mentally.
  2. Perfecto Mundo (9b+) – Margalef, Catalonia:
    • Another 9b+ in Catalonia, first climbed by Alexander Megos and later repeated by other elite climbers.
  3. La Capella (9b) – Siurana, Catalonia:
    • Also in Catalonia, this route is known for its intense difficulty and was first climbed by Adam Ondra.
  4. Stoking the Fire (9b) – Santa Linya, Catalonia:
    • This demanding route was first climbed by Chris Sharma and remains one of the hardest.
  5. First Round, First Minute (9b) – Margalef, Catalonia:
    • Another Chris Sharma creation, this route is extremely technical and requires exceptional strength and endurance.
  6. Papichulo (9a+) – Oliana, Catalonia:
    • A long and demanding route also in Oliana, known for its powerful moves and continuous endurance.
  7. La Rambla (9a+) – Siurana, Catalonia:
    • Probably one of the most famous 9a+ routes in the world, it has been climbed by numerous elite climbers.
  8. Ali Hulk Sit Start Extension (9b) – Rodellar, Aragon:
    • This combination of boulder and route is extremely challenging and was first climbed by Dani Andrada.
  9. El Bon Combat (9b/+) – La Cova de l’Ocell, Catalonia: This route was first climbed by Chris Sharma and is one of the most recent additions to the list of hardest routes.

These routes are not only incredibly difficult but also highly respected within the climbing community.

Climbers from all over the world travel to Spain to take on these challenges.
