Football in Madrid is about much more than what happens on the pitch. It is about the bars where fans gather before kick-off, the food shared after a match, the conversations between strangers and the passion that brings the city together.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with The Guardian on a guide exploring Madrid as a must-visit destination for football fans. The project coincided with the World Cup, making it the perfect opportunity to discover how the city comes alive during one of football’s biggest events.

Our work took us beyond the usual tourist trail. We explored Madrid’s food scene, visited some of the bars and social spots most closely connected to football, and checked out the World Cup fan zones where supporters gathered to watch the action. We also arranged guided visits to some of the city’s leading football venues and even organised a match with a local team, giving the project an authentic, hands-on experience of Madrid’s football culture.

Bringing the story to life on the ground

As the local fixer team, we took care of the practical details that made the project possible. This included securing filming permits, coordinating interviews and managing access to locations, as well as organising visits and connecting the editorial team with local people who could share their knowledge and passion for the game.

For us, being a fixer in Madrid, Spain, means much more than simply arranging logistics. It is about understanding the story a journalist wants to tell, finding the right people and places, and making sure everything comes together on the ground.

From traditional Madrid gastronomy to the buzz of football fan zones during the World Cup, this project was all about experiencing the city as a local rather than simply ticking off the main tourist attractions.
